Getting over my fear of writing

Here is an unfinished story I wrote. By posting this, maybe I can start to get over my fears?

I think I might have imposter syndrome

Hmmm, well. I think the reason why procrastination exists is because the task is daunting / unpleasant / difficult. You don’t really procrastinate say, getting the mail, or getting something out of the fridge – how about scratching your shoulder.

There’s also the problem of ego – if you have a big ego you fear getting into it with the work.

So you have to diminish your ego and you have to make the task easier.

One thing I’ve noticed is that it’s almost like writing novels is in some ways easier than writing short stories. With a novel, there’s a buildup in material that you really care about – vivid characters, places, settings, scenes – whereas with a short story there’s no time to build that up. John Gardner talked about this

Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever read an interesting short story outside of Lovecraft
